You claim to be using Tomcat 8.5.96. Tomcat 8.5.x is no longer supported.
The code is failing because the version you are using doesn't understand Java
modules.
The provided stack traces are from code that dates from circa September 2010
(which is a LOT older than Tomcat 8.5.96 - or any Tomcat 8 version for that
matter).
It looks like you are using a much older version of Tomcat than you think you
are.
Bugzilla is not a support forum. The Tomcat users lists is the place to seek
help if you need further advice on how to debug the problem you are seeing.
