You look at the build/build.properties.default file in Tomcat's SVN repository for the TOMCAT_5_5_17 tag: http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/tomcat/build/tags/tc5.5.x/TOMCAT_5_5_17/ You'll see it's DBCP 1.2.1. It's also pretty easy to build custom versions of Tomcat with whatever DBCP version (including a custom one) you want.
