With that eye catching subject, I wanted to draw attention to the first two
PR’s for rationalizing our short and long options for the SolrCLI.

Christos has put together a most excellent spreadsheet
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ws44kN51WnGwQzOXc8KKRQ93TMgHSqIGb02MRWFel_U/edit?gid=0#gid=0
tracking the various overlaps in options, and the other issues with them.

We have this ticket for tracking the overall work,
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-17383, CLI: Resolve overlapping
arguments.

Under it we have tickets for each option. The changes we are making are just
to deprecate options in 9x, with the actual change happening in 10x.

The first two PR’s are:

https://github.com/apache/solr/pull/2684

https://github.com/apache/solr/pull/2690

I want to make sure that for folks who care about these things they know they
are happening so there is no “Who moved my cheese” questions later ;-)

Kudo’s to Christos for his attention to detail in reviewing PR’s and writing up
JIRA’s...

Eric
