Whilst the company is irrelevant, what is relevant is what the contract
one has with one's employer says.

It isn't uncommon for employment contracts in the United States to
mandate that the company owns all intellectual property rights to the
inventions, and other content created by the employee, regardless of
where or how the employee made them.
