Because we should strive to better system integration. The Symphony build (as offered here http://people.apache.org/~zhangjf/symphony/build/) is a good example of what not-to-do in very importante cases (comments below based on how the UI is painted on my Linux system), important items are not painted following the system's style settings: - the popup window in the color-related toolbar controllers - the rulers - the whole sidebar - the tabs in Calc IMO AOO should strive at better system integration by using native widget painting where possible, or system color settings at least.
