Jeremiah, Sorry for the confusion... I believe Dan is right about the dependency needing to be "compile", and the statement on the Wiki page about making them provided is not accurate. I will update the page to remove that.
Also, you should only need to copy the NAR into the NiFi lib directory, and not the jar artifact.
