I think it is a good time to refactor shared as it was proposed in:

Note it is a good time to create 2.2.x branch too, but before that
we should reorganize myfaces core project layout to minimize
the overhead associated with maintain multiple branches.
If no objections I'll do the proposed changes soon (this weekend).
Suggestions are welcome.
