workaround for me on the VMWare was:
- hit ESC Key or the like to edit the boot entries during booting your
vm
- delete vga=current and quiet
- append 1 (single user)
- boot
- login
- type in "xinit", then "startmoblin"
I've got this tip having the same problem with the splash screen.

panels of Moblin (i.e. moblin-panel-status, moblin-panel-pasteboard,
