Yes, but for just that change this would be a large copy-paste.

Yes, just disabled in the default skin I'd say.
I was thinking that we could produce something like this with site renderer:
<a href"..." class="externalLink"> ... </a>
Then if we don't modify the maven-skins, their appearance doesn't
change. People who want to take advantage of this class just need to add
the appropriate css rule somewhere in their own skin.
I'll go ahead and see if I can create a patch for it...
