ES is pretty simple to use. It has a lot of neat features for text searching as well. That doesn't stop people from pretending it's a NoSQL database, however.
If you use it with PouchDB, localStorage, or session storage then it's a NoSQL database. PouchDB also features sync replication with CouchDB.
