I think what we discussed is based on some preconditions, like breaking lines **at their natural boundaries**. The above wiki example is not the same case that can be applied here, and we can always bring out a false example if we don't set the precondition, so the debate will never end.
So based on the preconditions brought out by Qiming, I'm in favor of style 2, and casting my +1 on it. Style 2: Break long lines at their natural boundary (punctuators, periods, subclause if necessary), for readability.
