I don't know the exact root cause. This failure can be consistently reproduced in my local environment.
I tried the following: 1. Revert the changes of GemFireCacheImpl 2. Introduced the new doClose() method as in your pull request 3. Change the return statements to return true or false accordingly as in your pull request.
