I have some backward compatibility work in membership that I want to complete for 1.11.  Doing so will remove the need to keep a bunch of other backward-compatibility code around and simplify things in the membership packages.

Oct 25 sounds like a good date to plan around!

As much as I would love to volunteer again, this would be a really fantastic
opportunity for a new committer who hasn’t done a release before. Don’t be
shy! No prior experience required!

Hi Owen,

Thanks for bringing this up!

Given our track record, instability we have seen in the pipeline recently
and that the holidays are coming up, I wonder if it makes sense to give the
release more time to stabilize and cut the branch even earlier. Maybe we
could try to find a release manager early next week and cut it Oct 25th?

Thoughts?

Geode's stated policy <

is to cut quarterly release branches on a time-based schedule
(specifically, the Monday on or after Feb 1, May 1, Aug 1, Nov 1).

Here’s a potential timeline:

Now
[Contributors] Start thinking about how to make features already in
develop as stable as possible.
[Contributors] Hold off on merging new potentially-destabilizing work
until after the branch is cut.
[All] Start a DISCUSS thread if you want to propose changes to release
cadence, release process, or the timing of this release specifically.
