Required reading for anyone wishing to contribute maven support: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-850 The highlights: You either (a) have to find a way to create binary artifacts that contain all of the necessary libs while satisfying their license requirements, or (b) turn the tide of public opinion and build consensus that using maven to retrieve the dependencies post-download is OK.
