I doubt that many people would like to develop using C++.
Maybe you will some day need to bundle JRE to get a better
foundation for security apps not to mention and rich web apps?

This seems to depend on the standards body. It is true
that there are many new security protocols based on XML
such as XML Digital Signature, XML Encryption, and
XML Key Management Specification.

You can use Aleksey Sanin's xmlsec library with NSS
for XML Digital Signature and XML Encryption. The
xmlsec library uses libxml2 rather than Firefox's
XML parser.
