Not really true... and actually, it was the other way round: Verisign owned Network Solutions - from June 2000 to November 2003, when they sold it to Pivotal Equity. And recently (in February this year), Network Solutions was acquired by General Atlantic, [yet] another private equity firm. They now consider themselves as "a leading provider of online solutions for small businesses" (quoting from http://vocuspr.vocus.com/VocusPR30/Newsroom/Query.aspx?SiteName=NetworkSolutions&Entity=PRAsset&SF_PRAsset_PRAssetID_EQ=168297&XSL=PressRelease).
