There are TOTP programs for non-mobile OSes as well.

Though, you must be careful -- if I were to use a desktop/laptop for this, I'd 
dedicate it to this sole function
and ensure it had no network access.  (But I'd rather get an old phone or 
tablet.)

In the short term there is TOTP, but I suspect there will be support for U2F 
tokens in the future.
The people working on unifying auth across our systems care very much about 
volunteers.
It's a non-negotiable feature.
