As a blanket statement, it would depend on an implied "that have consumers".

I am thinking the exact opposite sentiment: after Firefox 57 when
Webextensions are the only extensions, if our product no longer needs some
functionality (and it's "API"), let's remove it.

The key here is evaluating "needs".
