I am a developer who has experimented with Firefox tweaking before and I would be intrested in running a "proof-of-concept" branch or fork of Firefox with the latest features added before any sort of review to see how they play out in a normal browser. We've got what you might call "proof of concept" branches of Firefox already in our prerelease channels; if you to get a sense of what the latest and greatest looks like, Firefox Nightly is the place to be, and Developer Edition is a bit less exciting, but a lot more web-developer-ey, so you can pick what works for you.

Your best bet for experimenting with Firefox features is almost certainly via Addons, and the active and rapidly growing community around them. You are, of course, welcome to fork the code and do (almost, see the MPL) whatever you like with it. But if you want your experimental fork to keep pace with our own day to day development (which includes security improvements, so you _really do_ want to do that) and to be able to share your changes with other people, then living in Nightly or Dev Edition and experimenting via addons is the way to go.
