Hi everyone!

The next meeting of the C++ Standards Committee will be October 19-24
in Kona, Hawaii.

A lot of exciting things have happened since the last meeting, which
I've blogged about here [1]. Most notably, the Concepts Technical
Specification has been published [2], paving the way for a
concept-aware revamp of the standard library, and more generally a new
paradigm for writing generic code.

The committee continues to be faced with an unprecedented volume of
new proposals (see [3] and [4] for a list of new proposals since the
last meeting). I expect that during this meeting the committee will
try to prioritize the proposals and focus the discussion on the
features most likely to make it into the next major version of the
standard, C++17 (which is closer than it appears at first blush - to
reach publication in 2017, the standard needs to be feature-complete
by mid-2016 at the latest, which is only two meetings away). Progress
will also continue on the various Technical Specifications that are in
flight, some of which are close to publication.

I will be attending this meeting, spending most of my in the Evolution
Working Group, where new language features are discussed at the design
level. As always, if there's anything you'd like me to find out for
you at the meeting, or any feedback you'd like me to communicate,
please let me know!

Finally, I encourage you to reach out to me if you're thinking of
submitting a proposal to the committee. I'm happy to share the
insights I've gained into the standardization process over the past
couple of years of attending meetings and give guidance on how to go
about writing and submitting a proposal. I'm also happy to present any
Mozillian-authored proposal (I've presented one last year [5]).

Cheers,
Botond
