(Sorry if it had already been discussed in the past, slap me with a URI with the past archived discussion about it.) Agreed for the ASSIGNED vs NEW is bothering to set manually. That said I never understood, why it was not tied to someone being assigned to the bug. "Take this bug" should flip automatically this field.
