I definitely hope we have it sorted by Q2 though currently there's a bit of disagreement as to how upgrading has to work and it will probably take a while for that to get resolved. It is however unclear whether we can reuse the method names as it might break pages that use a polyfill if the finalized custom elements is not identical to what Chrome is shipping now. I recommend keeping that backup plan and evaluate again in April. If we know something sooner we can let you know.
