In order to submit a patch (or is it called a pull request) to the Addon-SDK I installed hggit (since all my other workflows are Hg). Pulling and pushing to git repositories are transparent and the performance acceptable. My main beef is with the Addon-SDK itself. For each changeset/patch there is a merge. The graph, looking from TortoiseHg is pretty horrible. A few google searches indicate that rebasing is better than merging in git.
