Just in case others read and want to copy this behaviour, sites
should not be encoding symbols at Unicode points preassigned with
another meaning.  Imagine what screen readers think of this, for
example.  The Private Use Area range of code points exists
for this purpose.

Having said that, the existing behaviour is probably to show
hexboxes until the font is downloaded, which is not an obvious
visual improvement.
