Even I am also facing this problem.

When I click switch user, it goes to a very distorted screen.

But in background, session is running. I find that Ubuntu is actually at a
screen to enter password.
so if I enter right password, it will accept and go inside. Then things work
normally.

On the main screen, everything is garbage though.

so kindly let us know what can be possible solution.

Thank you.

Title:
  ver 11.04, switch user problem

Status in “gnome-session” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Just upgraded to 11.04 from 10.10, if applications are left open and
the switch user function is used, the screens from the original user
end up in the new user desktop but distorted so that I can't access
the buttons. Attempts to logout when I can find the button locks the
system in the boot down sequence. requires power cycle.

  Using Ubuntu Classic
  64 bit with 7GB RAM
