Can you check if IPv6 is set to "Automatic" under the IPv6 Address tab?
It should always be set to "Ignore" for connection sharing, though it
may be created differently by gnome-shell (let's make sure).

Title:
internet connection sharing not working after update to 11.10

Status in “network-manager-applet” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Ethernet connection will not maintain a consistent outgoing connection
(constantly resets) after following guide at
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing. The
connection works for a few seconds before it starts reseting.

  Ubuntu Release: 11.10
  network-manager-gnome: 0.9.1.90-0ubuntu6
expected behavior: internet connection from wireless to be shared over
ethernet without resetting
What happened instead: connection maintained for 1-2 minutes then resets
every couple seconds.
