This may (and probably is) related to the bug in which evolution only
checks network connection status with Network Manager.

Suggest doing additional network checks to not just assume network is
down just because ONLY Network Manager says so.

  no send/recieve

Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: evolution

  Currently my send/recieve button is grayed out, therefore I cannot
  send or receive messages. This began today, I don't know how. I have
  restarted the computer and also reinstalled Evolution using Synaptic
  to no avail. I use Ubuntu 9.04.
