Title:
Unity multi monitor support still needs work

Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
The following is of personall opinion, I expect others to disagree.

A few months ago at the UDS this video was recorded to show the
  upcoming multi-monitor support:

  http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=lbwNMnNUGFA

I was very excited about this video, as in 11.10 the 'solution' to
multiple monitors was just to duplicate the dash/launcher/top bar
comletely and only have the "nautilus desktop" span across the
multiple screens. The video that was release at UDS demonstrated that
each screen had it's own properties, and that the launcher was only
shown by default on the main screen (they are actually hidden after
watching the video again which is dissapointing)

In my opinion, the way that Unity handles multiple desktops should be
similar to how Gnome-Shell handles multiple desktops. Only the main
screen will get the launcher and top bar, and the subsequent screens
will just be added workspaces. I seriously hate the redundancy of
having multiple identical looking screens except for a few icons and
  the windows themselves.

In the system settings>displays there is already the gnome-shell
specific option to drag which screen the top menu should be on,
perhaps we could just piggyback off of this same feature and have that
same setting determine which screen all of the Unity junk should be
on. That way for people who have gnome-shell and Unity installed, the
setting would be shared between the two.

Again, these are just my personal observations, but I feel like I am
not alone in the idea that duplicating the Unity shell on each screen
is not the proper solution. And it is nearly identical to how it was
in 11.10. (Did anything even change since 11.10?)
