The desktop menus don't support Alt+whatever selections right now. No
letters are underlined.

Not sure if this is an issue with Nautilus or Unity,

Title:
Alt+letter shortcuts do not work for the Desktop

Bug description:
On the latest unity (5.4.0+bzr2041ubuntu0+654), after focusing the
desktop, keyboard shortcuts for the menu items do not work. For
instance, alt + f does not open the File menu. No alt + letter
combination seems to work for the Desktop. It seems some other
  applications also have problems.

  How to reproduce:
Left click on the desktop, noticing the change in the panel to "Ubuntu
Desktop" (or the translated equivalent). Now try pressing alt + f (or alt + p
in Polish translated desktops) or any other alt + letter combination that
should open up a menu item.

  Expected outcome:
The given menu is open (for instance, the File menu).

  Actual outcome:
  Nothing happens.

  Unity version: 5.4.0+bzr2041ubuntu0+654
  Compiz version: 1:0.9.7.0~bzr3025-0ubuntu1ppa1 (from ppa:sil2100/ppa )
  Ubuntu version: precise
  Gfx driver: fglrx
