The "Appearance" panel doesn't read the stock backgrounds due to a regression. It has been fixed in upstream with https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control- center/-/merge_requests/2828 [ Impact ] This bug prevents blind people, who rely on screen readers, not only to know which background is currently selecting with the keyboard, but even that they are selecting something. [ Test plan ] To reproduce this bug, open gnome-control-center in 24.04, enable the screen reader, go to the Appearance panel, and using the TAB and cursors (don't use the mouse), move the selection to the first background. Nothing will be heard. With the patch, the name of each background picture will be heard. [ Where problems could occur ] One of the risks of this patch is that the CSS style settings when selecting a background breaks if the code wasn't correct, thus showing an incorrect selection style. Another possible risk is a regression in accessibility if the changes in the a11y tree have some undesired side effect.
