Hi everyone. I have some liberty on the laptop provided by my work, but I prefer not to install a test package, our IT service may frown. Unfortunately I do not have another computer with Ubuntu right now.

I have in dconf 'click-action' set to 'previews' (I like this behaviour). When I click an open app icon in the dash-dock having several windows open, a preview of them appears as expected. When I click one of these previews the corresponding window gets on top as expected. But this window (call it A) does not have focus, which is unexpected. Expected behaviour : window A gets focus Actual behaviour : window A does not get focus Why it matters: When I start typing text it types in the "wrong" window (I mean the window that had focus before while I am expecting to modify the text in the window that just went on top) and if I do not pay attention I may get into trouble by modifying files I do not want to modify. This could actually cause some serious trouble to an unlucky person, quite hard to debug if they do not know the cause. Do not get confused: there are 'focus-...' options in 'click-action' but they concern what happens when you click the app icon. I am referring to what happens when you click the preview image, which is a different thing. [ Test Plan ] 1. Log-in to an Ubuntu Desktop Xorg session 2. Set the dash-to-dock behaviour to show previous with: $ gsettings set org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock click-action previews 3. Open 2 terminal windows 4. Click on the Terminal icon on the dock 5. Verify that 2 previous showed up 6. Click the first preview 7. Verify that the Terminal window was raised to the top 8. Type anything on the keyboard 9. Verify that the text is inserted in that window 10. Repeat steps 4~9, clicking the second preview instead. Reset the default dock behaviour with: $ gsettings reset org.gnome.shell.extensions.dash-to-dock click-action [ Test Plan - Regression ] Repeat the Test Plan in an Ubnutu Desktop Wayland session and verify the same behaviour. [ Where problems could occur ] The bug seems to only occur in Xorg and the reason is not fully understood. The patch could affect the Wayland session differently, thus the test plan should be reproduced in a Ubuntu Desktop Wayland session to check for regressions.
