* Add label-freetype-fix-fallback-not-working-when-fc-matc.patch to fix missing fonts resulting in missing text (LP: #2096806) -- Daniel van Vugt <daniel.van.v...@canonical.com> Thu, 06 Mar 2025 13:48:48 +0800 ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu Oracular) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released ** Changed in: plymouth (Ubuntu Noble) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to plymouth in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2096806 Title: plymouth does not display text on Ubuntu Core 24 Status in Plymouth: Fix Released Status in plymouth package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in plymouth source package in Noble: Fix Released Status in plymouth source package in Oracular: Fix Released Status in plymouth source package in Plucky: Fix Released Bug description: plymouth does not display text on Ubuntu Core 24, this is because of a regression introduced by https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/plymouth/plymouth/-/commit/544e62ac41a490f04d8e6b4e85f8b9fa1171b0cc This was later fixed by: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/plymouth/plymouth/-/commit/792fe7474a02a1facacdd52e0dcf9053da4b1f6e The patch is now in plucky but needs to be backported to noble and oracular (TPM backed desktop systems could be affected). [ Impact ] Users do not see messages about boot status that were printed in the past in Ubuntu Core systems. [ Test Plan ] To reproduce: run UC24 on a qemu VM adding "splash quiet" to the kernel command line from the grub menu. If the system has the bug, no message will be displayed in the bottom part of the display while the splash screen is shown. [ Where problems could occur ] The patch comes from upstream and it affects the label-freetype library, which is used only on UC/hybrid systems, so there should be no impact for regular desktop users. On UC, if something goes wrong then maybe plymouth could crash and we would end up with no splash, but the fix is prettly simple and comes from upstream so chances of this happening are small.
