This problem has been plaguing me for months and now that I've created a bug report, the last two times the system went to sleep and I woke it up didn't result in the described behaviour. I'll monitor it and check in the morning again and if it's doesn't happen again, I'll close the bug.

If I power the monitor down and back up again, it's recovers the correct settings.
