Chromecast: "No Cast destinations found" on 16.04, works on 17.10

Bug description:
So tried to chromecast from chrommium. Click on cast i get the option "No
Cast destinations found. Need help?"
it is funny though as it works fine on ubuntu 17.10
I tried all the tricks reported previously on forums but no joy.
