I don't know if this is related (i.e,. underlying libraries used), but I
have the same problem when copying from Epiphany to gnome-terminal.
(I started to comment on this originally thinking this was talking about
epiphany, not empathy :-/ ) .

Thanks for the tip/work-around: using shift+insert also works to paste
into terminal for me. But the menu (edit->paste) and shift+control+v do
not work when copying from certain applications. Previously, as a
work-around, I'd copy from epiphany (or empathy) into gvim, select/copy,
and then I could paste into gnome-terminal just fine. Using shift-
insert is a workable work-around.

Title:
Text copied from Empathy can't be pasted in Gnome Terminal

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

After copying text from the chat history in an open Empathy
conversation I am unable to paste the results into gnome-terminal.

Pasting seems to work fine in most other applications. Thus a
workaround is to paste the text into a plain-text field (something
like gedit) and then paste from there.

It seems to be something with the way these two applications interact.
I'm wondering if rich-text contents are not being handled properly by
gnome-terminal or if empathy is not correctly setting the plain-text
  version of the clipboard.

Using klipper I get a odd result if trying to "edit" the clipboard:
the edit box is empty despite the klipper menu showing the cut text.
