Hi I have this problem too with oneiric and with precise and with 3.3.4 (from rico ppa). The bug is reproducible (now it happens on my two machines). I dont know how its happens but after some time empathy freezes and i cannot open any windows.
In my machine this are the steps to reproduce: *Open empathy *Leave it open (some hours) *Try to chat and everything is frozen. * Using Gmail, msn, facebook, jabber and people near functionality.
