I seem to have this same problem on Ubuntu 20.10. (It was present in 20.04 as well). Recently I wanted to use this keyboard on Windows 10 and it was failing as well (!!). I found this article on it for Windows: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-hardware- winpc/microsoft-sculpt-ergonomic-mouse-does-not-click-on/a89bc2de-4ee0 -497a-b8fa-289338b9bbb1
Seems that this only happens with older version of the keyboard. I bought mine in 2016. The described workaround on windows (ctrl-alt-del and then cancel) has worked. Similar using Ubuntu if the problem occurs I can use Ctrl-Alt-F3 to change to a console and then Alt-F2 back to my session and it's working again. The mouse will then work for a while but the problem does reoccur intermittantly. I have not tested this with a later version of the hardware though but am wondering if the orignal reporter is using an older hardware version as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1860424 Title: Microsoft sculpt ergonomic mouse doesn't work on Ubuntu 18.04.3 Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I cannot work with my Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse on Ubuntu 18.04.3. It worked normally on Ubuntu 16.04, but now it presents a lot of instabilities. I can move the pointer but cannot click anything. The scroll doesn't work too. When I change the mouse to another one, it works normally. The instability doesn't shows itself immediately. The mouse works for some seconds, and then the systems stops to respond to some of its commands. The mouse is working normally in Windows. --- ProblemType: Bug .tmp.unity_support_test.0: ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.9 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME DistUpgraded: 2019-09-07 07:57:05,857 DEBUG Running PostInstallScript: './xorg_fix_proprietary.py' DistroCodename: bionic DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] [8086:1916] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] [103c:80d1] InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-03-18 (1041 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS "Xenial Xerus" - Release amd64 (20170215.2) MachineType: HP HP Pavilion x360 Convertible Package: xorg-server (not installed) ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-74-generic root=UUID=8352e01f-2580-4315-98ff-f584b17874d1 ro quiet splash pci=noaer vt.handoff=1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-74.84-generic 4.15.18 Tags: bionic ubuntu Uname: Linux 4.15.0-74-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2019-09-07 (138 days ago) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo _MarkForUpload: True dmi.bios.date: 04/22/2019 dmi.bios.vendor: Insyde dmi.bios.version: F.28 dmi.board.asset.tag: Type2 - Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 80D1 dmi.board.vendor: HP dmi.board.version: 84.33 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Chassis Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 31 dmi.chassis.vendor: HP dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnInsyde:bvrF.28:bd04/22/2019:svnHP:pnHPPavilionx360Convertible:pvrType1ProductConfigId:rvnHP:rn80D1:rvr84.33:cvnHP:ct31:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.family: 103C_5335KV G=N L=CON B=HP S=PAV dmi.product.name: HP Pavilion x360 Convertible dmi.product.version: Type1ProductConfigId dmi.sys.vendor: HP version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.13.1+18.04.20180302-0ubuntu1 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.99-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 19.2.1-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 19.2.1-1ubuntu1~18.04.1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.19.6-1ubuntu4.3 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.10.5-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:18.0.1-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917+git20171229-1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.15-2 xserver.bootTime: Fri Sep 6 22:26:59 2019 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.19.6-1ubuntu4.1~16.04.2 xserver.video_driver: modeset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1860424/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
