Surprise to know this problem exist since 2016 ;) I remember the apt version of chromium will show an "!" mark on the 3-dot menu button to tell you restart chromium because the app is updated. I'll try the refresh-app-awareness setting to see if it works better. While the current working tabs remains working, open new tab is not possible without restart the whole chromium. I'd like to suggest to provide a prompt to ask user to restart chromium when it is auto-updated by snap instead of mysterious crashing with SIGTRAP. It take me a while to figure out what's wrong.
