Public bug reported: Files (Nautilus) displays progress for things like file transfers/deletions/etc as a small progress bar as part of its icon in the Ubuntu Dock. However, if Files is closed, the progress bar freezes in place rather than tracking the actual file operation, which continues in the background as signaled by GNOME's notification. If you re-open Files during this time, the progress bar will update to the proper position and keep tracking, but stop once the window is closed again.
