** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1790814 Duplicate entries caused by debs and snaps offering the same application -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-software in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1840612 Title: Software Center offers multiple version without explanation Status in gnome-software package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 19.04 Gnome-software: 3.30.6-2ubuntu4.19.04.1 By default Ubuntu Software offers applications both from the ubuntu repos and the snap store. that's fine but confusing. The two packages can have different versions and descriptions, or the same version and the same descriptions. This is all very confusing for anyone who doesn't understand the difference. I'm not going to suggest a specific solution, but here are some thoughts. - some key differences could be highlighted in tool-tip text - the 'snap-store' text could be made into a button like the 'channel and 'license buttons. An explanatory text could be kept there. - if Canonical thinks it's unimportant which source is used (which is implied by not giving any caveats) then why not just roll the multiple packages into one entry (like the current multiple versions available) and make the 'source' text into an 'any' button which offers a choice of source. The newest version (regardless of source) could be offered by default. PS. it's inconsistent that the option to include snappy is a setting in the Gnome-software package and cannot be set in the Software & Updates package.
