To reproduce: 1) Open appearance settings dialog 2) Change from "Wallpapers" to "Colors and Gradients" 3) Choose a color 4) Connect or disconnect an external monitor 5) Observe screen change to black background This does *not* happen with a picture as the background (i.e. when choosing an image from the "Wallpaper" or "Pictures" selections).
