Title:
Connecting/disconnecting external monitors changes colored background
  to black

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
When I disconnect or connect an external monitor from my laptop, and
have my background set to a solid color, the background color of my
  desktop changes to black.

  To reproduce:

  1) Open appearance settings dialog
  2) Change from "Wallpapers" to "Colors and Gradients"
  3) Choose a color
  4) Connect or disconnect an external monitor
  5) Observe screen change to black background

This does *not* happen with a picture as the background (i.e. when
choosing an image from the "Wallpaper" or "Pictures" selections).
