In the years since this was reported, it appears to have been fixed.
There have been substantial changes to the dialog and everything now
seems to fit.

Disk Utility's partition creation window is too small

Bug description:
When creating new partition, the window is too small, the slider
widget is useless, user can't use the slide to resize partition, and
the label about the partition is too big.
