Title:
filters don't work in news groups

Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: thunderbird

select a news post. Use article/create filter from article. Define
filter. In not one single place is there any option to actually run
the filter: both in the menu and in the filters list, all options to
  run the filters are disabled.

Net result: those 900 posts from the bonehead you want to ignore
cannot be nuked, which IMO is more or less the whole point of filters.
