Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with archiving
ignored threads in Thunderbird. You made this bug report in 2016 and there
have been several versions of Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
If it is still a problem, are you still interested in finding a solution to
this bug?
If you are, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect BUGNUMBER
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Thunderbird unignores threads when archiving

Bug description:
If I archive an ignored thread message the thread gets unignored
without asking. Since ignored threads are the ones that you are not
interested in it makes sense to archive them just after ignoring,
however once you do that the thread is no longer ignored defeating the
purpose of the feature.
I'm running xenial and thunderbird is version
45.4.0+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1.
