Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a problem with Thunderbird.
You made this bug report in 2010 and there have been several versions of
Ubuntu and Thunderbird since then.
Could you confirm that this is no longer a problem and that we can close the
ticket?
Or, if it is still a problem, could you run the following (only once):
apport-collect 668773
and upload the updated logs and and any other logs that are relevant for
this particular issue.

thunderbird forgets current selected message on compact
Status in thunderbird package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Thunderbird forgets current selected message when it compacts the
folders.
Procedure to get this bug:
1) Go to preferences and set compact folders on 1k of space saved.
2) Read a message and press Delete when done.
3) Thunderbird forgets current selected message.
Thunderbird works perfectly on this matter if no compacting is done.
Next message is selected.
