The noise was kept there on purpose. Indeed we tried the aubergine
background without it, and it looked really garlish, this is the reason
why we decided to keep it. However, we will probably iterate over the
design in the coming cycle.

Title:
  Disable noise on login screen background

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  An important factor in staying consistent with the overall aesthetics
  of the ubuntu design language would be to disable the use of the noise
  texture on gdm to provide a seamless transition from the plymouth boot
  splash onto the gdm login. Here is the override provided to fix the
  inconsistency in ubuntu.css under the gnome-shell themes directory:

  #lockDialogGroup {
    background: #2c001e !important;
  }
