I also experience this very annoying problem with many applications. For example with "Image viewer", when I go to the next image the title bar still contains the file name of the first opened image. If the window is maximized then the window titles are properly updated. I also ran xwininfo for a window for which the title bar did not change. xwininfo gives the new (correct) value of the window title.
