I have the same issue on a HP Compaqnw8440. Just finished upgrading to 11.10 and I am connected to the INTERNET using wicd network manager. Still the Network Manager applet is showing no wireless available and the message is "device not ready". During login process I receive a message telling that is waiting for network configuration and after a while is telling that is booting without full network support. Due to this in Ubuntu software center no applicaton can be installed as no network connection is available. Please contact me if more details are needed.
