@pitti, according to the changelog you made the decision to upload the Debian experimental package of sane-backends way back when. I think it would be only fair if you assumed some responsibility to rectify the multitude of problems this has created. We need to get back to syncing or at least merging with Debian unstable. I've started some work on this. I assume you will pitch in.

Unfortunately, that won't happen before z+1. I'll see if I can't provide backport packages to Xenial and Trusty. Simple code inspection seems to suggest that the Ubuntu delta needs to be rebased and carried over.
