I have the same trouble. Can you confirm that you use Ubuntu 11.10 ? 1/ The contact send me a message. The notification buble appears with the text and indicator turn blue. 2/ In the indicator, I click on the line bellow "IM". The line can be empty. See bug #842428 3/ If I open the contact history, I can read the previous messages. 4/ If the contact send me one more message in the active conversation, I got the notification buble, but it doesn't appeas in the history. 4'/ If I click on "today" on the history, then the message appears or 4''/ If the contact send me a second message, the previous one is "push" in the history

If I send an answer, I will see the next incoming messages. And in the history for the user, I see the previous invisible messages. But they are just missing from the chat window. And it's impossible so far to reproduce it easily. If I close the tab and ask the person to contact me again, it appears. I'm trying to find the specific conditions for this problem, I will add my comments here.
